Apartment access control: connect residents, visitors, lifts, and intercom

A good apartment access control system should do more than open doors. Building teams need to know which resident can enter which lobby, who approved a visitor, which lift floors are allowed, whether a contractor still has valid rights, and where the full event history lives.

Start with user groups, not devices

Before choosing card readers, QR passes, face credentials, turnstiles, or intercom devices, standardize the main user groups: residents, visitors, contractors, operations staff, and delivery or service teams. Treat lifts as part of access control

This matters for repeated denied attempts, after-hours access, disputes, visitor overstays, and events that need video review.

Offline-first still matters

Unstable connectivity should not stop residents from entering home or force guards to open everything manually. Valid permissions should be synchronized to devices; devices decide locally; the server synchronizes policy and aggregates events for reporting, audit, and investigation.
