Factory access control in Vietnam: a practical buyer checklist
How factory teams can standardize gates, shifts, restricted zones, contractors, attendance, audit logs, and offline-first access operations.
A factory access control system should not be evaluated only as door hardware. Factory teams often need to manage employee gates, vehicle gates, production zones, restricted rooms, contractors, delivery access, day shifts, night shifts, overtime, and exception handling.
Start with zones and risk levels
Before choosing readers, face credentials, QR codes, or turnstiles, map each area: main gate, vehicle gate, production entrance, warehouse, technical room, server room, office zone, and contractor work area. Each zone needs its own access policy, schedule, and audit depth.
Make permissions role-based, shift-aware, and time-boxed
- Access rights by department, production line, role, or shift group
- Schedules for day shift, night shift, weekend work, and overtime
- Temporary rights for probation staff, seasonal workers, contractors, and visitors
- Start and expiry dates for every temporary permission
- Full history for granted access, denied access, and operator overrides
Treat contractors separately from employees
Contractor access should include a sponsoring host, work purpose, allowed zones, validity window, temporary credential, automatic expiry, and event history. A contractor should not become a long-term employee in the access system just because revocation is unclear.
Use access events for attendance carefully
Access-based attendance is useful when raw device events remain immutable and attendance rules are applied on top: valid attendance points, shifts, overtime, late arrival, early leave, missed check-out, and approved exceptions.
Offline-first operation is critical
Doors, gates, turnstiles, and lifts should continue to process valid permissions locally when the network is unstable. The server should synchronize policy and aggregate events for reporting, audit, and investigation instead of becoming a bottleneck for every access decision.
